Welcome to Party Simplicity’s first design challenge: rainbow wedding invitations! Rainbow colors are becoming an ever more popular choice for a wedding theme.

The beautiful, vibrant full spectrum colors of a rainbow add a whimsical, fun loving feel to a wedding. And the symbolism and mythology surrounding rainbows certainly makes them an interesting choice for a wedding.

For example, the four elements of nature participate in forming a rainbow: fire, earth, air, and water. Well, the sun rays (or fire) reflect in water droplets in the atmosphere (air). Both ends of a rainbow’s arch touches the earth.

Furthermore, rainbows symbolize a “bridge”. You can think of this as a bridge that joins two people (as in marriage) or two families. As well, it is also thought of as a bridge to heaven or the spiritual realm. Rainbows also generally represent hope, peace, and calmness, as well as growth and rebirth.

You can also think of it as a shining light of truth and wisdom that helps dispel doubt and despair. When we look at a rainbow we see beauty and feel wonder and joy. Certainly unique and thoughtful symbolism for a wedding. However, as a wedding theme, these colors also offer a bit of a challenge. Because they are bright and varied, if overdone, they can certainly end up looking tacky and cheesy, rather than whimsical and stylish. Because the rainbow theme is a bit more challenging than more typical themes, this inspired the idea of a design challenge for our Party Simplicity designers.

I tasked our designers to come up with one rainbow wedding invitation design. These design challenges are great fun because each designer tends to have a different take on the theme and the designs end up being quite different. Here are the results from our talented Party Simplicity designers.
